Harper Collins: A "first" with "The Last..." in a digital "Second"

...The world's oldest conflict against the world's newest technology.

Harper Fiction UK have embarked upon a unique and pioneering digital media strategy for the release of best-selling author Sam Bourne's latest novel, The Last Testament.

Set in the dynamic and cult virtual world of Second Life, which has seen unique user levels peak past 7 million since it's advent in late 2006 early 2007, The Last Testament digital marketing campaign is set to jump from book shelves to the internet, and infiltrate the lives of the Residents in Second Life.

Harper Fiction will be initiating a media first by launching The Last Testament in Second Life. This will be accompanied by speeches given by avatars representative of Harper Collins' Chief Executive Officer, Harper Collins Marketing Director and the author himself. Online press will be invited to attend the launch by registering on Second Life and having their avatars present.

Aiding in the execution of this event will be virtual world specialists Rivers Run Red who will be filming the launch within Second Life, as well as creating three viral machinima, representative of extracts of the novel, as teasers for the book release.

The digital marketing & PR division of Naked Penguin Boy, NPB Media will work in collaboration with Harper Fiction's PR department to leverage exposure of this distinctive book launch among the online press and author fan-base. Using the three machinima as key viral tools, Naked Penguin Boy will stagger the online release of these along with a host of online competitions on mainstream entertainment websites and portals. Social networking mechanics will be used to infiltrate fans of the genre and create hype and anticipation around the release.

Due for release 2nd July in all UK book stores, The Last Testament centers around the Middle Eastern conflict and the attempts of lead protagonist Maggie Costello to lead peace negotiations between the nations. But with danger hot on her heels at every turn, Maggie is forced to turn to the virtual world of Second Life not only as a safe-haven but also to find the answers for which she seeks.
